The Asian Society of Surgical Metabolism and Nutrition (ASSMN) is a society for Asian physicians and personnel working in nutritional support. At the 19th Congress of PENSA held in Korea from June 13 to 16, 2018, the necessity of establishing the ASSMN was recognized, and discussion commenced. There was a pre-meeting with Asian surgeons from India, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and the Philippines at PENSA held in Hong Kong on October 8-10, 2019, and it was agreed to establish the Asia Surgical Metabolism and Nutrition Group. On February 4, 2021, there was a pre-meeting to discuss the inauguration of the ASSMN between the KSSMN and JSSMN. At the 33rd Congress of the KSSMN held in Seoul, Korea on March 27, 2021, there was also a meeting for the inauguration of the ASSMN with representatives from Asian societies. On September 14, 2021, the organizing committee was formed, and on October 12, the first ASSMN organizing committee meeting was held. Korea, Japan, and Taiwan joined as member societies in January 2022. On February 1, 2022, the official ASSMN website was opened. The 1st Congress of the ASSMN and 1st General Assembly were successfully held in Seoul on May 6-7, 2022. Additionally, the 2nd Congress of the ASSMN and 2nd General Assembly was held in Tokyo, Japan on July 6, 2023.

Along with the development of surgical skills and technology, the development of perioperative nutrition and metabolism is having a profound impact on the rapid recovery of patients and improvement of surgical outcomes. The ASSMN will not spare any active support to share knowledge and friendship among surgeons interested in surgical nutrition and metabolism.
