Constitution

Article I General Provisions

The society established hereby shall be called the Asian Society of Surgical Metabolism and Nutrition (ASSMN), founded on May 6, 2022. The society was initiated by representatives from Societies of Surgical Metabolism and Nutrition in Asian countries.

Article II Objectives

The objectives of the society shall be:
To bring together, on a common platform, scientists from Asian countries for a free exchange of ideas on the problems, challenges and methods in the field of surgical metabolism and nutrition.
To foster improvement of academic and scientific standards by encouraging research in the fields of surgical metabolism and nutrition.
To increase public awareness of the need for nutritional support in Asia.

Article III Structure

  1. 1.The Society Center (ASSMN Center) shall be located at the place which was decided by the Organizing Committee. The Organizing Committee will be the center for communication of the ASSMN members and will operate for the external relationship with other societies.

    2. 2)Membership

Article IV Organizing Committee

The Organizing Committee consists of the President, Next President, Immediate Past President, Secretary General, Treasurer, Scientific Committee Chair, Planning Committee Chair, Public relations Committee Chair, Research Committee Chair and other members without portfolio. The number of the Organizing Committee shall be around 20.
  1. 1.Method of nomination
    1. 1)President, Secretary General and Treasurer will be elected by the Organizing Committee.
    2. 2)The Chairs of each committee will be appointed by the President.
  2. 2.Term of Office
    1. 1)The term of office of President shall be from the end of Congress to the end of next Congress.
    2. 2)The term of office of Next President shall be from the end of Congress to the end of next Congress. The Next President shall not be eligible for re-election to this office.
    3. 3)The term of office of Immediate Past President shall be from the end of Congress to the end of next Congress.
    4. 4)The term of office of all other Organizing Committee members shall be two years, and they shall be eligible for re-election to their office.

Article V Membership

Membership is open to all professionals involved in the field of surgical metabolism and nutrition in Asia wishing to support the objectives of ASSMN and agreeing to abide by its Constitution.
  1. 1.Membership application
    The eligible society (society of surgical metabolism and nutrition in Asia) would send the application form to ASSMN center. The society would become the member of ASSMN when the Organizing Committee approve the application form in the ASSMN Organizing Committee meeting. Members of each society automatically become the members of ASSMN.
    All professionals from countries where there is no society of surgical metabolism and nutrition can apply for membership of ASSMN individually.
  2. 2.Types of members: Active, Senior and Honorary
    1. 1)Active members: The societies or they must pay the annual dues established by the ASSMN. Active members may vote, serve as officers of the society and on committees. The number of active members shall not be limited.
    2. 2)Senior members: Active members who have reached the age of 65 years become senior members by application. Senior members shall have voting privileges but may not be eligible for election to office. Senior members are not required to pay annual dues.
    3. 3)Honorary members: shall consist of surgeons who have made outstanding contributions to surgical metabolism and nutrition. They shall have no voting privileges, nor be eligible for election to office, nor be subject to assessment for dues.
  3. 3.Membership dues
    The acceptance of members and matters concerning membership dues are under the jurisdiction of the Organizing Committee. Registration fee of ASSMN member for annual ASSMN international symposium will be discounted than that of non-member.

Article VI Organizing Committee Meeting

The President would be responsible to call the meeting. The Organizing Committee decide on all aspects of policy and management of ASSMN. The effective meeting should comprise of at least half of the number of Organizing Committee. In special situation, online or hybrid meeting could be held and approved in the same way as regular meeting.
  1. 1.Quorum
    The President, Next President, Secretary General, Treasurer, Scientific Committee Chair, Planning Committee Chair, Public relations Committee Chair, Research Committee Chair and other members without portfolio would present in the Organizing Committee Meeting.
  2. 2.Voting
    Each member of the Organizing Committee may vote at the Meeting.

Article VII Language

The official language of ASSMN is English.

Article VIII ASSMN Congress

The scientific meeting of ASSMN shall be called the ASSMN Congress and will be held every year unless decided differently by the Organizing Committee. ASSMN Congress could be held as the face-to-face meeting, virtual meeting, or hybrid meeting. Any society member could propose to become the host of ASSMN Congress. The proposal would be sent to the ASSMN Center at least 2 years before the Congress. The proposed society would present overview of the meeting as well as readiness for logistics management of the congress at the Organizing Committee Meeting. The Committee would vote for approval.

Article IX Financial

  1. 1.Income
    Income of ASSMN should be made by (1) membership fee (annual due) and (2) donation from society or individual, and (3) others. Any special activity to raise the fund may be source of income of ASSMN as well. The Financial account should be belonged to ASSMN Center. The Treasurer of ASSMN Center should declare the financial report to the Organizing Committee.
  2. 2.Expense
    The expense of budget should be for administration of ASSMN Center, and activities to support the goals of ASSMN.

Article X Modification of the Constitution

The constitution may be modified by an affirmative vote of two thirds of the Organizing Committee who attend the meeting.
